  • Microsoft Language Portal
Microsoft has recently developed a language portal that should be of special interest to anyone involved in software translation and localisation. The portal gives direct access, via a dedicated search module, to literally hundreds of thousands of translations used for the development of Microsoft's localized products. Translations from English into over 90 languages are available. The site also offers downloadable versions of the Microsoft style guides providing localization guidelines for over 60 languages. A forum enables users to comment on the translations of terms used in the localized versions of Microsoft products and to propose other more appropriate terminology. The site, available in about ten languages, also offers an interesting blog on terminology.

  • Babelplex
Babelplex is a free meta-search engine that enables you to search the web in two different languages simultaneously. To perform a search, you simply type in a search term, then select the source and target languages (over 500 combinations are possible). The results are displayed in two separate columns. 2lingual's results come from Google for textual web site content and images, and YouTube for videos. Wikipedia articles and blogs relating to the search term are also listed.
